We can talk about what a great player he was and what he accomplished in baseball but he was a much larger than that. He was a humanitarian and passed away doing what he loved most. On December 31, 1972 he would pass away when his plane crashed just after take of while en route to deliver supplies to the earthquake victims in Nicaragua. Clemente was involved in this type of charity work every off season. As a player, he accomplished everything including 3000 hits which he got on the final game of the 1972 season. He would also win 4 NL batting tittle, 12 Gold Gloves, 2 World Series Championships, NL MVP and be a 15 time All-Star. This is a rare trunk that carried Clemente personal items during the season on road trips. Trunk shows extensive use with scratches throughout. Front of trunk has a painted Pirate P with on top ends one side has Clemente Pitt 21 and other side Momen 21 Pittsburgh. Wheels on bottom have been replaced at some point and is missing one, Lock does not work, Leather strap straps on sided have fallen off. Comes with a letter from a gentleman saying he purchased it from a Pirate Garage sale in the early 70s. LOA
